DSA Form DL26 – the driving test application form – is available from your driving instructor or any theory or practical test centre.
Applicants can also call the DSA hotline on 0870 0101 372 between the hours of 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday. If you own a credit or debit card, you will be able to book directly over the phone, without having to complete the application form. To do this, however, you must be ready to quote your driver number from your provisional driving license, your theory test pass certificate number and your driving school code if you are being trained by a professional instructor. Make a note of your booking number. An appointment card will be sent to you as confirmation within a few days.
Separate driving test enquiry lines are available for Welsh speakers (0870 0100 372) and the deaf or hard of hearing (0870 0106 372).
If you have special requirements, make sure you declare them at the time of booking. The DSA is committed to ensuring that all applicants can take the driving test wherever possible.
Deaf candidates are allowed the services of an interpreter, although this individual must be over the age of 16 and not a qualified driving instructor. The same applies to those who are unable to speak English.
Disabled drivers will receive an extended version of the regular driving test that allows time for discussion of the nature
of the disability and any special adaptations fitted to the car.
Expect to have to wait several weeks for a test appointment, although waiting lists vary from centre to centre.
Tests are run every weekday at the following times: 08:40 - 09:37 - 10:44 - 11:41 - 13:33 - 14:30 - 15:27.
Saturday and (summer) evening appointments are available at some test centres for an additional fee.
If you need to cancel or postpone a test for any reason, you will lose your fee unless you make your request at least 10 working days before the original test date.
